S.D.M. Law College and Centre for Post Graduate studies and Research in Law, Mangaluru is one of the premier Legal educational institution in the Country. The college was started in the year 1974 under the benevolent leadership of Poojya Dr. D. Veerendra Hegdeji in order to fulfill ‘Abhayadana’ and ‘Vidyadana’ two of four fold dharmas of Dharmasthala. The college was initially affiliated to Mysore University and in the year 1980 the college was affiliated to Mangalore University and from 2009, when Karnataka State Law University came into existence, the college is affiliated to the said university in the same year. The college is recognized as the only one Research Centre of Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi. The college runs five years integrated BA.LLB / BBA LLB, 3 Years LLB, one year LLM programme in Corporate and commercial Laws and P.G. Diploma as well as Certificate courses. 13 students are pursuing their Doctoral programme and three faculty have been recognized as Research Guides. The present strength of the college is 828 students, 21 full time faculty members, 15 visiting faculty, hailing from Bar / Bench / Academics and administration. The college is known for unique Moot Court competitions such as dual advocacy, Triple advocacy and all in all advocacy etc.
The college has set its own mark in curricular and co curricular activities and has been declared as the overall champions of the University for the Consecutive four years. In its outreach activities the college has established Arbitration and Mediation Centre, IPR Incubation Centre, Legal aid cell, Eco club, NSS, Human Rights and corporate club to meet both Corporate and Social requirements of the society. In its young of age 44 years the alumni of this college brought the name and fame to the institution in all walks of life.
Alumni have reached pedestals of Supreme Court as well as High Court as Judges and Legal luminaries. Our alumni have become civil servants, Judicial officers, academicians, administrators and above all the great citizens of this country. For all these credible achievements the college has reached the pinnacle of success by securing ‘A’ grade in NAAC, 3rd cycle (2012–17). The grading agencies such as GHRDC (New Delhi) has considered this college as 4th best Law college in South India and Second school of Excellence in India (2016-17). The Outlook survey 2016 and 2017 has considered ours as the 19th/20th best law school all over India. Career 360 recognizes our college as one of the best law college in Southern India.
